A Day In The Life – Summer Edition

Regular summer days are lazy mornings, lunch on the deck, walks to the park and ice cream daily!  Summer has always been my favorite season.  It’s way to short in Alberta in my opinion so, we soak up every minute of it we can.

My goal was to complete one “Day in the Life Photo Project” for each season.  Spring was a botch due to… busyness (refer to a couple posts back, “More Hours in a Day”).  But, thankfully I caught up on a Summer Edition.  If you missed the one I did back in March I’ll fill you in on the why and how!

  1. To create a memory of a regular summer day at home raising my boys.  I’m sure many of you, like me and are great at capturing moments during vacations, festivals, events, birthdays etc.  But, what about the regular days at home.  This is what I’ll look back on as a reminder of what life looked like during this phase.  The   routine and the not so exciting quiet moments as a family.  I’ll capture the things I forget to photograph and I’ll do it beautifully.

  2. It encourages me to pull out my “big girl” camera and put aside the convenient phone camera for a day.

  3. Capture the details.  Bare feet in the grass, doggy cuddles, bedtime cartoons and snacks on the deck.  I’ll freeze it all with my camera in one dedicated day!

The fun part of these challenges is the honesty.  When we log onto Social Media we see everyone’s best.  The happy and the beautiful.  There are ups and downs in a day.  There’s no hiding my messy house, failed self portraits and screaming toddler!  I’m an open book on this one day.  A warm, fun, emotional, messy, routine free, busy day in the summer life of yours truly.

7:45 a.m.

Rise and Shine.  Big J is the first to crawl out of bed.  The sun is bright and breakfast is served.  Cereal for the littles, coffee for Mama.

8:30 a.m.

Up an at’ em!!  Little J is up for the day.  We don’t all wake up happy.  Now rush off to 9a.m. swim lessons.

9:00 a.m.

Big J learns how to swim like a fish.  He wasn’t your typical water baby.  It took him many cautious years but has spent countless hours in the pool recently and finally discovered his love for the water.  Meanwhile, phone selfies with Little J!!!

10:00 a.m.

Sometimes it’s a bike ride, a walk to the park or a playdate with friends.  Today was a morning at Nana’s.  One of our favorite places to visit during the week.

11:00 a.m.

Raiding the garden and picking fresh produce for dinner!  God I love summer.

12:00 p.m.

Summer lovin.  The pictures say it all!

1:00 p.m.

Nap time for Little J!!!!! Hallelujah.  Big J’s out riding his bike with his neighbour buds.  Mama gets to enjoy a coffee in peace and quiet….

KIDDING…NO she doesn’t!!!  My sweet Lola.  How do I describe this in writing? She needed help doing her business.  Her poor little body just wasn’t doing what it was supposed to.  Oh the joys… I’ll spare you gross photos (not that I took any)

2:00 p.m.

A request for snacks and coloring on the deck and time to tackle a messy kitchen.  Also, this kid has a thing for wearing his helmet even when he doesn’t need to.  Because it’s just THAT cool!!!!

3:00 p.m.

Kitchen CLEAN & supper made.  Featuring some good old super easy spinach and cheese ravioli.  Sit down for activity books and supper with my big boy.  Yes, I usually do an early supper for the boys.  Daddy gets home very late so we usually don’t wait.

4:00 p.m.

Little J is up to join his bro for some grub.  These two can make meal time extremely exhausting or extremely cute.  Luckily it was an extremely cute kind of day!

This right here is why I always have my camera near by.  My heart could burst…

5:00 p.m.

Regular Shinanigans in the Ross house.

6:00 p.m.

My grandparents were in town so we popped over to my parent’s house for a visit.

8:00 p.m.

Back home to see Daddy before bed.  Unwind with cartoons and a bed time snack.

9:00 p.m.

It’s “Captain Underpants” with Daddy and the sunset.

Nothing short of a beautiful summer day along with some unexpected surprises of course.

I can’t remember exactly what the rest of the evening looked like because obviously I had put the camera away.  Most likely a quick tidy and off to bed for some Netflix before I shut my eyes and get some rest before starting a new day.
